Prices are ranges, not quotes. Your number depends on deck size, how much old coating has to come off, cracks to repair and the finish you pick.
Signs your deck needs more than a pressure wash
Repairs to damaged areas are usually priced on top of the resurface, and the cost depends on how bad the damage is (Shasta, Feb 2025).
- Cracks. Small cracks can often be repaired as part of a resurface.
- Uneven sections. Raised or sunken slabs are a trip hazard and a sign to look at the concrete underneath.
- Stains. Marks that won't wash out.
- Worn coating. Sun, pool chemicals and foot traffic wear a deck finish down over time.
Resurface or replace?
Resurfacing puts a new coating or thin overlay on the slab you already have, and runs about half the price of full replacement (Shasta, Jan 2026). Replacement means tearing out the old deck and pouring or laying a new one.
If the slab is sound and the problems are on the surface, resurfacing is usually the move. If the concrete is heaving, badly cracked or crumbling, get a replacement price alongside the resurface price.
Common deck finishes
- Spray deck. A textured coating sprayed over existing concrete. Budget-friendly and non-slip.
- Troweled overlay. A thin layer troweled over the existing deck, with color and pattern choices.
- Stamped concrete. Patterns pressed in to look like stone, brick or tile. More decorative and usually pricier; Shasta's January 2026 guide lists stamped concrete at $15 to $30 per sq ft.
- Pavers and natural stone. Shasta's January 2026 guide lists pavers at $5 to $40 per sq ft depending on type, and natural stone at $20 to $40.
Cool deck and the Arizona sun
Light-colored acrylic deck coatings, often called cool deck, are made to reflect sunlight so they stay cooler underfoot than plain concrete (California Pools; Rosie on the House). Pavers can get very hot (Rosie on the House).
The original cementitious Kool Deck is applied to freshly poured concrete, fades in the sun and is hard to color-match when patched, so a worn one is often redone with an acrylic coating instead, which can go over old concrete (Rosie on the House). Ask each contractor which product they would use over your deck and why. California Pools recommends resealing a cool deck coating every 5 to 7 years, more often in high-traffic areas.
Do it with the pool resurface
Shasta's January 2026 guide advises bundling upgrades into one project and getting three quotes to keep labor costs down. With the pool drained and a crew on site, deck work avoids a second round of setup and mess.
Which Arizona license covers deck work
Arizona's R-21 hardscaping class specifically excludes pool deck coatings, and the R-6 pool service class does not allow complete replacement of decks. Concrete work falls under the R-9 concrete class. Ask which license your contractor will do the deck under and check it on the Arizona ROC lookup before you sign (Ariz. Admin. Code R4-9-103).
Before you get quotes
Measure your deck (length times width of each section), photograph cracks and stains, and check whether your HOA wants to see color changes first. Ask each quote to list square footage, removal, crack repair, the coating product and the sealer, so you can compare them line by line.

Common questions
How much does it cost to resurface a pool deck in Phoenix?
Published Arizona ranges run $3 to $12 per square foot for a coating or overlay on an existing deck (Shasta Pools, Jan 2026). Removing the old surface first adds about $1.30 to $2.00 per square foot (Shasta Pools, Feb 2025).
Is it cheaper to resurface or replace a pool deck?
Resurfacing is usually about half the cost of replacement. A full replacement of a 900 sq ft deck runs about $5,400 to $13,500 (Shasta Pools, Jan 2026).
How often does a cool deck need resealing?
California Pools recommends every 5 to 7 years, more often in high-traffic areas.
Who can resurface my pool deck in Arizona?
Check the license class. R-21 hardscaping excludes pool deck coatings and R-6 excludes complete deck replacement, so confirm the contractor's class on the ROC lookup.
