Resurfacing in the Scottsdale and Paradise Valley
The northeast Valley has some of the hardest water and the most varied drain rules in the metro. Fountain Hills water runs about 16 grains per gallon, Paradise Valley has four water providers, and many homes in Paradise Valley and Cave Creek are on septic, which rules out the sewer cleanout.
If your pool has an attached spa, rock waterfall, vanishing edge or tanning ledge, each adds prep time and detail work. Ask for each one as its own line on the quote. The table below sums up the local rules for each town we have a page for.
- Scottsdale
- North Scottsdale
- Paradise Valley pool resurfacing
- Fountain Hills pool resurfacing
- Cave Creek pool resurfacing
- North Phoenix
| City | Tap water hardness | Where a drained pool goes |
|---|---|---|
| Paradise Valley | About 12 gpg in EPCOR's area (2025) | Cleanout, basin or plants; septic homes can't use the cleanout |
| Fountain Hills | 16 gpg (2025) | Property or cleanout; some streets barred |
| Cave Creek | 12 to 15 gpg (2023) | Cleanout or your own lot, never septic |
Before you pick a finish
Spas and water features
Attached spas, rock waterfalls and sheer descents are usually resurfaced in the same job. Ask for them to be priced as separate lines so you can compare.
Darker finishes
Darker pebble and quartz colors give deeper blue water, but they can show mineral spots more. Your contractor can show samples in real light.
HOA and access
Gated communities may need crew access passes or set work hours. Mention your HOA when the contractor schedules the job.

Scottsdale questions
Do you cover Paradise Valley and Fountain Hills?
Yes. We match requests across Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills, Cave Creek and North Phoenix with a licensed contractor who works that area.
Can the spa be resurfaced at the same time?
Usually, yes. Most contractors resurface an attached spa in the same job since the pool is already drained. It is quoted as part of the project.
How much does pool resurfacing cost in Scottsdale?
Price depends mostly on pool size, the finish and the prep work. Phoenix-area ranges run from about $4,000 for white plaster to about $15,000 for pebble, and more for large pools with spas. See our cost guide for a ballpark by finish and size.
